| Preparations for rice planting have begun in the last few days. I wasn't able to see the plowing process, but I did see them using carabau (water buffalo) to flatten the surface. Harvesting will be possible in 3 months (3 crops). However, having seen rice paddies in Niigata before, the soil looked depleted to me. Because it's the rainy season, the water is constantly flowing. The surface soil is black like sewage and even smells foul. They seem to be tilling the fields, but only the surface. It feels like the soil can't breathe and is about to suffocate.  |

| We don't have rice transplanters. This is how we plant rice by hand in these vast rice fields. Apparently, planting rice in three fields yields a net income of around 350 pesos (700 yen).  |
