This day last year...
August 18, 2007.

I'm often asked how I communicate with Gigi, and the answer is mostly in English.
However, it's not like my English has dramatically improved over the past year, so I guess it's just that Gigi has become able to understand my strange grammar and pronunciation.
It might mean that a third language, neither English nor Japanese, is implicitly being constructed.
I hope we'll soon be able to have conversations entirely in Japanese...

Amidst all that, there was something rather interesting I came across in a conversation with Gigi, so I'd like to share it with you.

Japan offers many new products, a wide variety of goods, a convenient lifestyle, and beautiful housing.
Above all, in terms of money, they live a prosperous life, and people are living happy lives.
Cebu and my hometown of Mindanao are chaotic towns.
Infrastructure and living conditions are far from ideal. Low wages make it difficult to even afford food each day.
But because Japan is wealthy, it's always pursuing new products and an even more comfortable lifestyle, and in the end, it struggles with money, doesn't it?
Even though we (Filipinos) are poor financially, we are happy as long as we can spend time with our families.
Once Darling (that's what Lily's dad calls her at home) retires, we'll be able to live a relaxed life in Mindanao.
