| Gigi takes the bus around 9:30 AM on Wednesdays to Hanshin Amagasaki, where her classroom is located. I explained how to use trains and buses as soon as he arrived in Japan in March, but the only one he can ride alone is the bus. At the beginning, I explained that there are priority seats and that we should give up our seats when elderly people board, but I had completely forgotten about it. Today, while Gigi was on the bus to go to Japanese language school, an elderly person got on, and Gigi immediately gave up her seat. And apparently, a teacher from the classroom who happened to be on the same train witnessed the whole thing. Gigi told me in the evening, excitedly, that she had been praised in the classroom in front of other students for what she had done. Even Japanese people tend to pretend not to notice or fail to speak up, but Gigi apparently spoke to them in English, saying "'Please sit down'". I also praised them, saying "'That was a good thing you did. I'm happy for you too.'". |
