Cavalier Lily's Diary: The Gap Between Rich and Poor(2010/12/11)	This day last year... December 11, 2009.
In front of a small Baptist church located between my house and school.

Today, I'll introduce life outside of the urban areas of Mindanao. Just outside the city center, you'll find many places where houses like this are lined up.
This isn't a storage shed. It's actually a house that can protect you from the rain and wind.
And then December 21, 2008. From Labason to Ozamis via Depolog, it took 8 hours by V-hire (shared taxi). Jaeny (then 8 years old) and Jean (then 9 years old) came to live with us. Gigi's mother adopted her, but was unable to take care of her and entrusted her to someone else. And they lived in houses like the one in the picture above, and couldn't even get enough to eat. Of course, even with clothes, it's a bonus if someone buys them secondhand, even if it's only once a year. I can go to school, but I can't afford to buy notebooks or pencils, and I can't participate in school events like yesterday's because I don't have the money. That was the kind of life Jinny and Gian were living. That includes not only Jinny and Gian, but also all five of their siblings, including Gigi. They were all taken in separately and raised individually. Some siblings were only able to attend school until the third grade of elementary school, and some were unable to go to high school (equivalent to junior high school in Japan). This is the harsh reality of the Philippines, where the gap between rich and poor is extreme.
And then in 2008, we adopted Jinny, Gian, and Julina. Compared to my previous life, this is an extremely luxurious life. It's a Cinderella story in itself. Gigi thoroughly teaches her children how to do household chores. Cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and cleanup. 'If we don't teach them now, they'll have problems in the future.' is a description of Gigi. If I get up late in the morning or take a shower late, I get yelled at loudly. If the cleaning and tidying up aren't done properly, you might get hit with a broom handle. Even so, she was subjected to violence from her own father to the point of injury, She has grown up bright and cheerful, as if she never experienced the loss of her mother. (Even so, it seems like she prays to 'I hope Mom (Gigi) won't get angry tomorrow.' when she goes to sleep at night.) This photo was taken two years ago, when he first came to our home.
However, Japan is facing a declining birthrate, an aging population, and a decrease in the working-age population. As developing countries improve their technological capabilities, Japan will find it increasingly difficult to accept overly advanced technologies. People who can't find a job even after graduating from university, and exhausted working-age people in their 30s and 40s. Perhaps Japan's future is headed towards this world of dilapidated shacks. However, Japan doesn't stop there. The Philippines is known for its large families and many children. While this might seem contradictory to poverty at first glance, It's commonplace for someone to offer help when someone is in trouble. Unlike in Japan, there are no cases of child abuse or the killing of babies. That's why Gigi is there, and why Jian and Jinny are there now. The question remains: does a stagnant Japan truly have the strength left to recover? My psychiatrist here "Japan is wealthy and prosperous, but exhausted, while another country lacks money, Which would you prefer: a fulfilling life in Mindanao? (smile!)" Personally, I still haven't been able to come up with an answer.
