features a day of tutorials and several days of technical sessions.
The conferences are attended by members from around the world: the
1992 Conference was attended by over 4000 individuals from 24
countries, and 43 of the 50 United States and the District of
Columbia. We also provide tutorials and technical sessions at other
exhibitions and conferences around the world.
Past tutorials have included:.
The Internet
Basic and Advanced Systems Administration
UNIX Device Drivers
XView
Migrating to Solaris
Writing Distributed Applications
The Domain Name System
Perl
Mixed-OS Administration
The Sun User Group is dedicated to keeping in the forefront of Sun and
Sun-licensed technology. Our tutorials reflect the changing interests
and demands of our technical and professional community. Technical
proceedings, containing written versions of most of the papers
presented at the conferences, are available for the past three SUG
conferences.
In 1993, the Sun User Group in cooperation with PCI, began the
SUG-East shows. Like the annual SUG conferences, the SUG-East shows
feature three days of technical tracks, tutorials, and exhibits. The
next SUG-East is in Boston, MA on July 27-29 1993. For more
information about SUG-East, please call 1 (800) 727-EXPO or the Sun
User Group office.
Local User Groups
One of the ways of getting to know your colleagues is through a local
user group. Local User Groups (LUGs) exist throughout the world.
Currently, there are LUGs in 25 states and 15 countries. The Sun User
Group supports these local groups with listings, literature, a mailing
list, and organizational assistance. Several international LUGs have
entered into formal arrangements with the Sun User Group to ensure
that their members receive README and other SUG benefits.
Periodicals
The Sun User Group publishes a bimonthly newsletter, README, which
contains technical articles, User Group news, and Sun Microsystems and
third-party vendor information. README is also one of the ways
through which SUG keeps its members informed about new developments,
beneifts, and shows. Submissions are encouraged, and may be sent to
readme@sug.org. Past issues included articles concerning superuser
privileges, domain name servers, and networks.
Sun User Group members are also entitled to receive monthly copies of
SunExpert magazine and Workstation News.
SunExpert, published by Computer Publishing Group, serves the UNIX
workstation environment, emphasizing Sun, SPARC, and Sun-compatible
systems.
Workstation News is a monthly publication devoted to presenting the
latest industry information for the UNIX user.

The Email List
For our members with electronic mail, the Sun User Group maintains an
electronic mailing list. The mailing-list is available only as a
benefit of membership in the Sun User Group. If your SUG membership
is not current you will not be placed on the mailing-list even if you
request it.
The list is a forum for the discussion of the needs of SUG members,
both from the user group and from vendors. It also provides SUG with
a fast and easy way to alert users to new developments in user group,
such as new member benefits or late-breaking conference news.
If you would like to be added to the electronic mailing list, be sure
to check off the appropriate box on the membership application and
include a valid email address. Alternately, you can send mail to
'member-request@sug.org'.
Software Library
The Sun User Group makes available public domain (unsupported,
donated) software. In the past, there have been software tapes; in
1991, keeping in the technological forefront, SUG issued a CD-ROM.
The 1991 SUG CD-ROM contains 300MB of source code, fully-indexed
archives of Sun-related net postings, plug-and-play X11R4, compiled
Sun 4 binaries and nearly 200MB of Sun Micro- systems' software
patches.
The 1992.1 disk, which was assembled by Robert A. Bruce, has 543MB of
material, including X11R5, 212MB of contributed X sources, GNU
sources, libraries, SPARC binaries, and an archive of comp.source.X
postings.
The 1992.2 disk has nearly 650MB including more SPARC binaries,
resource materials, archives, patches, and source code not found on
previous disks. For further information on any of our CDs, send email
